The Revanent

The Revanent – Michael Punke

The Revanent is almost 2 books. The first 2/3 is interesting and intriguing. The last 3rd is depressing almost to the point of Virginia Woolf proportions. The plot really kicks in when Hugh Glass gets mauled and left for dead in the wilderness. His whole survival and subsequent living with Indians could be a novel in itself like Dances with Wolves. It’s detailed, beautiful, and when he sets out for revenge exciting.

The last third where Glass catches up with the people who wrong him gets tedious and boring with the end being just plain depressing. There is no real confrontation with the person who leaves him for dead and everyone starts dying. There is no real ending of sorts.

I wouldn’t read it again I don’t think but it’s WAAAAY better than Virginia Woolf. Shit, anything is better than Virginia Woolf.
