So Ads bought what he thought were 2 interesting fizzy drinks. Turns out it’s Kombucha. I’d heard it mentioned by people because it’s supposed to be very good for you.
Kombucha is a fermented tea that contains symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeasts (SCOBY). While there are many claimed benefits there is nothing backed up in science to say there is any health benefits. In an article written by a CSIRO scientist for CHOICE magazine suggests that Kombucha has no more probiotics than any other commercially available product. While there are also a lot of active ingredients there is no scientific evidence to suggest it’s of any more beneficial for your health.
Does it taste good? Yes. There is a slightly fizzy yeasty beer like taste to it. The one I tried was apple and very fresh. I didn’t feel bloated like I did after drinking 600ml of regular fizzy drink. It made me burp a lot too which I think could be due to the probiotics.
Not sure if it’s something I would drink all the time but it is something I would have if I had an upset stomach, or I felt unwell.
